We all know that the Tangerine Terrorist will flood the zone with a sorts of nonesense. It is his only trick as a failed, fraudulent, snakeoil salesman. I’ve written before about his only tactic: convince you he is all-powerful and you are powerless to stop him.
TT is now flooding the zone with his pusillanimous executive orders that have no legal founding and/or cannot be enacted because he is abrogating the First Article powers, the power of the Congress. It is vitally important for Congress to remember that their power rests with us, the people. We vote our national representative to the House of Representatives and Senators by popular vote. The Second Article spells out Executive powers … and, First Article powers are an important to check Second Article powers. The founding fathers placed the power of the Congress first and foremost in our Constitution for a reason.
TT is a weak man playing with the powers of the Executive branch. He is acting like an out-of-control toddler. But, he only holds the US’ most powerful office because of an outdated Electoral College. He does not have a mandate because he only won a tiny plurality of the popular vote (it is this fact that I was shocked but not surprised that there was not an immediate call for another vote — a plurality is not a majority, it is a tie) and relying entirely on the Electoral College. He has never won an election without dividing our country.
Democrats are now the opposition party in the First Article of the Constitution of the United States of America, the Congress. As painful as this era will be, as much as the Congressional Democrats want to help govern, their power needs to now be to block any action taken by TT when he tries to rule by fiat (executive orders). The Congressional Democrats need to not give an inch to whatever TT’s Congressional followers want to do. The Congressional Democrats only job is to invite sane-minded Republicans to join the opposition.
This means that every time TT’s followers in Congress want to abrogate their First Article powers, Democrats must stand together, defend and uphold every single one of their powers to check TT’s unAmerican power grab. Let legislation fail. Use parlimentary moves to block TT’s atrocious abuses of Second Article powers. And, most importantly, communicate with us, the people who elected them to use our power, what they are doing on our behalf.
We, the people, have never ceded our power to TT. He is throwing a tantrum because we are powerful and he is just a weak man in an office of power. He wants to grind us down, he wants to take away our hope, he wants us to surrender our power to him.
We will not allow TT to grind us down because we can still protest peacefully, we still have our ability to speak with our elected officials, we still have our voice. Our elected officials are still obligated to us to re-elect them back to their offices of power.
We will not give up our hope because our country is built on hope. We are always working to form a more perfect union. We are always striving to be a better people. We are always working to improve our lives. We are a hopeful country.
We will never surrender our power to TT. There are more people like us than like him. Power whispers. TT has to kick up a fuss because he is weak. Power is nonviolent. His followers are weak because all they know is violence. Power is respectful. TT and his followers are, at heart and in action, disrespectful.
Let your elected, First Article representatives know that their power comes from us. Join Indivisible, join the ACLU and/or the SPLC. Join a local civil rights organization for letter writing campaigns and making phone calls. When our elected officials do their job and stand up to TT, tell them that they are doing a good job. When they roll over to join TT’s followers, give them support to stand against TT and his followers. Their strength comes from us.
Focus on one way to use your power as an individual, choose the best way for you to exert your power against the fire hose of divisiveness that TT is unleashing. Get activated and join a group that helps you keep focus on your power.
And, for the love of our country, vote. Vote every time your country asks for your opinion. Make your voice heard and vote the bums out.
