We had a heartbreaker of an election. We have an insurrectionist sitting in the office of POTUS. We have a Democratic Party as the opposition party. And, we have an enourmous number of fellow citizens who will feel betrayed by the weak person they helped elevate to the most powerful office in our country.
Yes, I am heartbroken that we can’t have nice things in the country because of the latent misogyny and racism this country has wrestled with since it’s inception. Yes, I am angry that a plurality of my countrymen couldn’t set these bigotries aside and vote for the best candidate in our last election. But, I am going to go out and talk with them.
When I am angry and heartbroken, I figure out how to do something constructive for others. To do this, I will need your support, dear reader, because I cannot do this work alone. I will share my perspectives about what I am thinking and what I have learned with all of you. We don’t have to agree on all of the small things, but let’s try to agree on the big things.
To that end, let’s agree that we have bigotry problems throughout our population. But, we can work on these problems, one person at a time. Let’s agree that we have a fascism problem that flies in the face of our capitalist economy. We can find common ground with the fascists that when everyone does better financially, everyone does better financially. Let’s agree that language matters. TT and his followers want to pervert and undermine our common language that we use to communicate. We cannot let them use divisive language ad nauseum without us pushing back and reclaiming our time.
I am going to reach out to as many people as I can. I am going to surround myself with supportive people so that I know I can reach out to people who don’t know, yet, that they can be supportive, too.
The Tangerine Terrorist was elected by the barest of pluralities to POTUS. He does not have a mandate. He is already tearing apart his MAGA base with his unpopular executive orders. He only invited the billionaires who gave him money and who are not MAGA to see his inauguration.
When they lie, tell them they are lying. When they use bigotry, tell them we will not accept or tolerate their bigotry. When they try to convince us that we have no power, tell them that no one is powerless unless they, as individuals, give up their individual power.
Our country was founded of the people, by the people and for the people. We, the people, hold power. Our elected officials were elected to represent all of us, not themselves and not their personal interests. They only have positions of power because of we, the people.
When you feel isolated, alone, go out and volunteer with like-minded people, build a supportive community. When someone, like TT, tries to divide you from your ideals, do not give that weak man the time of day. Remember to find humor in all the stumbles TT and his followers are going to make. Point and laugh and tell them why they are so absurdly unAmerican. Best thing to do to bullies is to laugh at them, turn their violence aside with nonviolent tactics and remind them how cowardly and weak they are. They are in positions of power, but this does not make them powerful.
Do not obey in advance.
Illegitimi non carborundum.
