Big Idea of the Day: Power

Here’s the thing about what the Tangerine Terrorist is doing in the opening days of his new administration: he is trying to convince you that you have no power. And, he is wrong.

Power, in this country, resides with the people. From our founding documents to the perception of power, we, the people, have always chosen whom we elect to exercise our collective power. That goes for this most recent election, as well. Virginia chose to give power to the Democratic party. A lot of states across the nation chose Democratic leadership. Not enough of us came out to vote for Harris … and there are a lot of theories about this. But, Democrats in both Houses have a LOT of power as the opposition party. We, the people gave them that power.

I wrote a diary yesterday about what individual power means. Today, I want to focus on our collective power. I also want to remind us that our elected officials in the Democratic Party stand in the breach because they know that their power comes from us, the people who elected them.

The Tangerine Terrorist and his followers do not understand the power of the American voters. To them, numbers and statistics are all that matter. Here’s the thing: the Tangerine Terrorist won the popular vote by a plurality, not a majority. He has no clear mandate to do anything, and it is up to us, the people, through our elected officials, to remind him and his followers of this simple fact every day of his administration.

So, while TT (Tangerine Terrorist) will flood the news with all of his dictatorial dreams, as is his only playbook, our main objective is to loudly object to his single, underlying goal: convincing us that we have no power. He lies, he cheats, he runs out the clock because, in the end, he is a carpet-bagging snake oil salesman.

We must always keep in mind that TT is the first convicted felon to ever hold office. We must always remember that his SCOTUS failed to uphold the 14th Amendment, Section 3 of the very document they are hired to interpret, for short-term gains and long-term failures. And, we must remind ourselves that we are powerful, free and democratic in our basic beliefs as citizens of the United States of America.

Join Indivisible groups, join the ACLU and Southern Poverty Law Center, get involved with your local Democratic Party offices. It will take all of our participation to keep our country strong, free and democratic.

Illigetimi non carborundum.
